Our Programs
PIRD's major projects
undertaken and achievements in the past three years :
-
Campaign Against Child Labour :
Awareness campaigns have been organized against
prevailing child labour practices for the last 15 years.
PIRD started 60 non-formal education centers in 60
villages, which effectively benefited near about 10000
children and was successful to integrate about 700-800
child labourers back into schools over the last 15
years.
-
Women’s development Programme :
In all, 65 women’s SHGs were formed, with a combined
membership of 608 women. The main objective of these
SHGs was to help the most underprivileged and destitute
women to stand on their own feet. Out of these 252 women
assisted in the range of Rs 2,000 to Rs 5000 each under
various income-generating activities.
-
Water resources for drinking and irrigation purpose:
During the past four years, PIRD undertook a project
“Multi Dimensional Development Programme” in 51 villages
of Latur and Parbhani districts for the upliftment of
women and marginal farmers. Under this programme, 55
wells were dug up and another 39 existing well were
deepened with their active participation. This helped
solve the drinking water problem of 900 families from 20
villages. These 94 wells (55+49) helped 302 marginal
farmers to bring there 300 hector area land under
irrigation.
-
NRM and Watershed Development :
With the help of AFPRO and Miserere, PIRD took up
village Soroga (covering 200 hector) and village
Kekatsindgi (706 hector) in 1998-2002 for integrated
watershed development. Another project under IGWDP is
near to completion covering 1315 hector area in
Narvatwadi-Yeldarwadi cluster of 5 villages.
where as another 6-watershed development
programme are in process.
-
Rehabilitation of destitute women in Earthquake affected
area :
Since the devastating earthquake in the year 1993,
PIRD is working in this area for rehabilitation of
affected families. PIRD’s significant contribution was
in the area of obtaining legal rights and possession for
widows and destitute women. The government had allotted
houses to other affected families but these women were
denied their just right to own house. PIRD took up this
issue and fought tooth and nail with the authorities.
They organized a dharana at Vidhansabha in Nagpur
and successfully got the justice by which the government
agreed to allot residential plots to about 800 women.
This was an historical decision in the matter of
rehabilitation of earthquake-affected people and set an
example for rest of India.
